Our Story: Becoming Delta Church

Throughout 2022 and 2023, Pastor Chuck Hedges and his wife Irene carried a heartfelt prayer—that God would send a couple to carry forward the ministry they had nurtured. During that same time, we, Mike and Ashley Hadinger, were praying for a place to settle and serve, sensing a call to co-pastor a church. In October of 2023, the Hedges reached out to us. After shared meals, heartfelt conversations, a board interview, and much prayer, the congregation welcomed us as Co-Pastors in February of 2024.

From the moment we arrived, we saw what made this church special. The people.

We quickly noticed how genuinely welcoming everyone was. From warm greetings to laughter-filled conversations, there was no pretense—just people eager to know and care for one another. Even our son was met with open arms and smiling faces. In a world that often feels rushed and disconnected, this was a community that valued slowing down and sharing life together.

Sunday mornings felt like family gatherings. You know how in some places the meet-and-greet time means a quick handshake before retreating to your seat? Not here. Conversations linger. Smiles are exchanged. People genuinely want to know how you’re doing. It’s a beautiful expression of what it means to belong.

We also saw a deep commitment to raising up young leaders. This church has a legacy of making space for the next generation to grow, serve, and lead. We are excited to continue that tradition—to be a place where young people are equipped, encouraged, and celebrated as they step into what God is calling them to.

And then there’s the faithfulness. Some families here have called this church home for decades. Through life’s inevitable changes—moves, transitions, celebrations, and hardships—they have stayed. Not out of routine, but because they believe in the beauty of a church family. They see purpose here, and so do we.

Moving Forward Together

Shortly after we were appointed as co-lead pastors, the Ohio Ministry Network approached us with a new opportunity. Journey Community Church in Delaware, OH had been without a permanent pastor, and leadership proposed something bold: a church blend. On June 2, 2024, our two congregations came together for the first time, worshiping side by side. Blending churches is no small step, but it was one marked by prayer, unity, and the belief that we are better together.

With two major transitions—new pastors and a church blend—we were careful to listen to God’s leading about our identity. Through conversations with our church family and leadership, we began to see the name "Delta Church" emerge. Delta is a symbol of change and growth. It represents the transformative power of Jesus to take what is broken and make it whole. In February of 2025, the name was affirmed with overwhelming support. And so, as of April 2025, we are Delta Church.

There’s a Place for You Here at Delta Church

At Delta Church, we are passionate about seeing people experience wholeness in Jesus. Whether you're walking through a season of joy or wrestling with questions, there is room for you. Our heart is to be a community where you feel known and valued, where your story matters, and where you can grow in faith.

We are also excited to see families grow and thrive here. While we’ve recently restarted our children’s ministry, our hope is to build a space where kids feel safe, loved, and excited to learn about Jesus. We dream of a future where children run through our halls, friendships form, and young hearts experience God’s love in lasting ways. If you’re a parent, we’d love to have you be part of that story with us.
